Hi, my name is Lauren. I work as a trainee ACP in adult cancer care. My training post rotates every 6 months so my role will vary around radiotherapy, inpatient wards, acute assessment units, bone marrow transplant and teenage/young adult cancer care. I am currently based in acute oncology which is essentially an ED for cancer patients. I see patients with a variety of conditions, some of which relate to their cancer such as electrolyte imbalance, neutropenic sepsis, spinal cord compression etc, as well as non-cancer specific problems such as heart attacks, strokes and renal colic. I clerk patients and make diagnostic and treatment plans which I discuss with a senior whilst training. I currently rely on colleagues to do all my prescribing for me which I am looking forward to being able to do myself to relieve some of that workload from others.
Daunted but excited to begin this module!
